Am very excited - have just purchased my first piece of Real Art - a *signed* print of Peter Blake's Bobbie Rainbow (daughter of Blake's 1968 creation Babe Rainbow):

'Bobbie Rainbow is the daughter of Babe Rainbow, a fictitious lady wrestler, who in turn was the daughter of the infamous Doktor K. Tortur. Bobbie's father is unknown, but she was born during 1976, when Babe was living and wrestling in New York (for a brief period in 1973 she was the world champion), and her most likely father is Ebony Superman, who was also world champion at that time. Bobbie is wearing the championship belts, and famous leather hat passed on to her by Babe, when she retired from the ring in 1989. She is currently wrestling in the U.S.A. and around the world. Bobbie bears an uncanny resemblance to her mother.'

I'm very pleased to find that my swap from Tripleprint photo processing to Doubleprint was a good move - Doubleprint use hot pink envelopes!

(Sir) Peter Blake: How do I love him? Let me count the ways...
Exciting news! At last there is a book coming out about this fantastic man! It was a pleasant surprise this morning to spot a news story about his latest incarnation of the Sergeant Pepper artwork - this time featuring famous Liverpudlians from Elvis Costello and Lilly Savage to Kim Cattrell and Mike Myers. But then to find out there's a monograph on the way too! I'm all tingly. Did I mention I love this man? I LOVE HIM!

The Blonde is back!
This makes me very happy: Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde!!! Although Legally Blonde 2 Barbie makes me slightly uneasy...

Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in 'Legally Blonde' 'Legally Blonde 2' Barbie

Isn't she pretty in pink?

Blair gives religious employers the right to sack gay workers
This makes me very sad, and regret that this is being done in the name of faith - my faith. Will they be sacking heterosexual staff who engage in pre-marital sex?

Pier fire flares up again
This too is very sad indeed. 'Firefighters have said a fire at Brighton's West Pier, which was probably started deliberately, has flared up again.'

Laura Cantrell at the Old Market, Hove on Wednesday night. Dang, she was wonderful. That voice - why can't I have that voice?! If she sang the Alphabet Song from Sesame Street she'd infuse it with such emotion you'd feel longing and melancholy and joy all at once. Songs she's written, songs her friends had written and songs from the old timers of Country. Support Paul Burch joined her at the end to duet on Hank Williams' I Can’t Help It If I’m Still In Love With You.

Afterwards I got to chat with her briefly - begging her to perform Poor Side of Town next time - and she signed the poster I'd taken down from the wall. She was white as a sheet - paler than me, which is saying something. And her poor feet were bulging out of her shoes - I should have offered her a chair and a bowl of hot soapy water...

I went home with a reissued copy of her rare Hello EP and I've had it on repeat ever since. Cellar Door is a great flirtin' song:

'Honey I've been knocking on your cellar door
What will I find, when you swing it out wide?
A match in the dark and a spark in your heart...'

There's also a great cover of Lee Harvey Was A Friend Of Mine, with lyrics pointing at evidence that he was framed:

'Lee Harvey was a friend of mine
He used to take me fishing all the time
He used to throw the ball to me when I was just a kid
They say he shot the president but I don't think he did

I've seen them pictures of him with the family and a gun
Shadows were pointin' every-which-a-way, but only just one sun
Someone faked those photos; that's not the way it is
They say he shot the president; but I don't think he did...'

Laura with Elvis...Costello, not Presley...

Now, this story reminds me of the lad who has promised to turn up at my hen night butt naked and dress rhythmically to music... ;)

I have to rave briefly about Toast, a sarnie bar near my office. They do HOT FISH FINGER SANDWICHES!!! I haven't been able to make myself one in ages, being freezer-less. Oh joy!
It's a lovely place, too - fantastic variety on the menu and not too dear - and they make everything from scratch, in front of you (it's like culinary foreplay...). And they've given their sandwiches fabulous names - the Kate Moss has chicken breast, spinach and low fat mayo, the Eat My Shorts is peanut butter, jam and banana. Fancy houmous, grated carrot and roast peppers? Just pop in and ask for a Morrissey...

put guest books on public places for anyone to write in
leave money in vending machines
leave poems everywhere; library books, unsold bookstore books, coffeehouse sofas, pockets
leave drawings everywhere
leave mysterious letters in coffeehouse sofas
leave mixtapes in coffeehouse sofas
leave painted rocks everywhere
write nice things on rocks and leave to be found
draw someone and give them the drawing
ring someone's doorbell and ask them to tell you all about their home
touch someone
try sitting on the floor for a change
choose someone at random from the phone book and send them a letter
choose someone at random and send them a present
make your own presents, and give them to people that look like they could use a gift
put up plays in public places
play music in public places
put up all kinds of strange shows in public places
shout nice things really loud in public places
spread petals over concrete and subway stations
shoot fireworks when fireworks aren't normally seen
write interesting things on money
write things with seeds on public lawns, and wait
put up notes in public rooms and on mirrors, with messages like "make love to faith"
give honest compliments, to strangers and friends
call a random stranger up on the phone
call someone and read stories
call someone and read stories on their answering machine
write a story, record it onto a tape, and give it to someone you like
send messages in bottles
dare
