'You're not asking if I love this man
I know you don't, you don't believe you can
Yet I've seen love open like a dancer's fan
It's crazy I know, but my faith says so...'

I just bought the latest Alison Krauss & Union Station album - it's a gem, and this song in particular leapt out at me. I don't know if this refers to faith in the love of a human man or the love of God - but to me it speaks so strongly of the latter. It reminds me of so many conversations I've had with people who don't share my faith and, understandably, can't get their heads round it. And of course, by their very nature, faith and love cannot be logically explained or scientifically proven. It would be like trying to explain colour to someone who has been blind from birth. You have to trust me on this one. I've seen love open like a dancer's fan. Here's the Bible verse I was given the day I was baptised:

'Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy...' (1 Peter 1:9)

Just popped in to give brief but heartfelt applause to whoever chooses the playlist at Safeway on St. James Street in Brighton. During my dinner break dash round the supermarket I was treated to The End Of The Line by The Travelling Wilburys, followed by Candy by Mandy Moore and The Divine Comedy's Becoming More Like Alfie (which was a fantastic, if sad, reminder of how good they used to be before Hannon went Radiohead...). It's the first time a DJ's saved my lunch hour...

My friends Sean & Ali have been expecting their third child. When I saw them last Sunday, Ali was already 4 days overdue. When I went to church last night I heard that the baby had arrived safely at 1am that morning...on the bathroom floor! Apparently it all happened so quickly that by the time Ali had managed to wake Sean up it was too late to get to the hospital and he had to just tear down the shower curtain and get her to lie on it. But, thank the Lord, it all went well and Mum and baby girl are fine. 9lb 14oz! Ouch...welcome to the world, Miss Amelia Avard.
