If it ain't got that swing...
Woohoo! Got my photos through of the Streets of Brighton performers on 7th May. Three films' worth, which I will be sorting through and raving about bit-by-bit of my next few posts - but first in line is Swizzelshaker, a great comedy/juggling/dance act we stopped to watch in New Road. It was so much fun to watch - in fact I was itching to join in. I loved watching the smiley faces of the two old ladies opposite me - who would have wore those clothes and danced like that in their youth.

And I fell in love with the guy, just a little bit. Cute, funny AND he can dance? (And the chances of him being straight, single AND a Christian are? Laughable. Darnit!)

'I believe you are in league with the butcher.'
A lovely chance sighting in Sydney Street, on a day I had my camera with me:

Especially fitting as we've been discussing the possibility of watching Breakfast at Tiffany's in themed outfits as part of my 30th birthday hoopla. 'There's gonna be a hoopla?'

Snuggling Up with Joe
Another great article on the Single Minded: Christian Singles Today site, from the ever spot-on Camerin Courtney, author of the fantastic Table for One:
'The other day I was at my local hair salon, I leaned back at a sink as the shampoo girl washed and conditioned and rambled on about her boyfriend. Shampoo Girl was massaging my scalp and I was nearly nodding off in blissful goosebumpiness, when a funny thought flitted through my sudsy head: This is the most human contact I've had since... since... my last hair appointment!'
It's so true. It's only when someone does touch me that I realise how infrequently it happens. It struck me when my chiropractor stroked my spine to make me relax, lifted my hair up and rubbed my neck, held my feet in her hands. When my 6ft+ friend enveloped me in a bear hug and I couldn't remember the last time I'd had a good cuddle. When I was wearing a satin jacket the other day and people were queueing up to run their hands over it!
There's a need out there, people. Have you hugged a single person today?

'I've crushed on you so long
But on and on you get me wrong...'
It had to happen - it's always been my belief that pop groups I'm not fond of will eventually put out ONE song I totally love. Step forward Westlife. Lads, you've done it - I am hooked on Obvious. The Gorgeous Blonde will be pleased. It's just a great shiny pop ballad. It muses on the awfulness of falling for a friend who fails to notice, while you read deep significance into every look, every word, every gesture, blinded by hope... apparently.

If you want to destroy my sweater, hold this thread as I walk away...
Have an old t-shirt which has seen better days? Sewing skills minimal?
Never fear: T-shirt Surgery is here in your hour of need!

Had a really good time at Hove Museum the other Saturday at a workshop run by mosaic artist Anna Tilson. Got up to my elbows in tile chips and grout, and came home with a tile which actually looked like something a proper artist might make! Am now eyeing all flat surfaces at home with a view to taking this to the Next Level...

Wear high heels and get a record deal
Great article on designboom on the origin of the the wire coat hanger, and another on the re-use of wire coat hangers. Which links in nicely with the mobile I've just finished (which I started only four years ago...). It's my tribute to Kenickie, (and a complete rip-off of the band Alfie's logo). If you'd like to make this at home, kids, all you need to do is cut out letters from a piece of card covered in shiny sticky-backed paper, and hang them from a coat hanger with sewing thread.

Audrey Hepburn: Style icon
It's 75 years this week since Audrey Hepburn was born. What a woman - remembered now not only for her beauty, talent and wit but - above all - her goodness and kindness. I'd love to be remembered as a good, kind person - something to keep working on!

Does my bum look big in this?
My two penn'orth on the V&A's Vivienne Westwood retrospective, and a handy link to the book which accompanies the exhibition, which is well worth buying if you've any interest in fashion history. It's not perfect - the bits where they've squeezed in twenty catwalk photos onto one page are frustrating as you can't see any kind of detail, but all in all (and if you can find it with a healthy discount from the £30 cover price) it's a joy.
