Bowie in tribute to Mark and Lard
I'm quite emotional about Mark and Lard leaving Radio 1 - only because it means they're not doing a show together any more. Really it's my gain - I haven't been able to listen to them while they've been on in the afternoon, except on the odd day off. Mark will be back in June, with a night-time show on Radio 2. It'll be lovely having him back on nights. I will miss Lard though.
Lads, if you only knew how many nights you sustained me through coursework deadlines, how you comforted me as I worked till 4am, covered in glue, ink and bit of fabric. You got me into so many of my favourite bands - Divine Comedy, Tindersticks, Kenickie, Gorky's, Belle & Sebastian - you cost me a bluddy fortune! You got me funny looks from strangers every time I waved at the Palace of Glittering Delights as I passed on the bus going down Oxford Road...
Best bang a tune on.

The fabulous Cast Off Knitting Club For Boys And Girls is all over the press at the moment, as they're hosting a Friday night knit-in at the V&A. It was a joy to watch one of them teaching BBC Breakfast's Bill Turnbull to knit. Here's what The Independent had to say, and a few other knitty links:

In which I am a not-very-glamourous assistant...
All for love of the 24 Hour Museum's kids' site, Show Me, a bit of Blue Peter-style research and production, then a spot of modelling, during which our photographer asked, 'Can you make your hands look like a child's?...'

Something to make you smile, if you're familiar with Tate Modern's recent Weather Project: Secret diary of an art gallery attendant

'Stacy's mom has got it goin' on...'
My two new favourite things:
1. My new knitting dolly, an impulse buy at Hove Museum yesterday. I'm knitting cords out of wool, thread, string, ribbon... owt which might work. Now I've just got to find something to do with the end product.
2. My copy of Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne. They looked so old on CD:UK next to all the teenyboppers but powerpopped the others out of the water. And I'd like to get to know the lead singer better. He intrigues me...

'Madam, life without you was like... a broken pencil.'
'Explain?'
'Pointless...'

Things I didn't expect to happen today:
A tuning fork to be placed between my cheeks (yes, those cheeks) so that my chiropractor (first time I've been to one) could assess if my sacrum is fractured (it isn't)...

Reasons to be cheerful: 1, 2, 3...
1. I've just started a History of Costume course at Brighton Museum and I'm really enjoying it. I get to talk about clothes for three hours a week!
2. I made it to the Quentin Blake exhibition at the Gilbert Collection at Somerset House and it was wonderful. Filled me with joy. And now I want to buy the catalogue and his Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered. I used to be able to draw and I need to pick up a pencil and knock the rust off.
3. The new series of Black Books starts 11th March!!!

Nothing quite so becometh a gentleman as a damp muslin shirt - is it not so, Miss Johnson?
"Saturday 13 March, Chertsey Museum: Undressing Mr Darcy
Explore the hidden world of men's Regency fashion. (Nearly) all will be revealed when historical costume experts remove the layers as Mr Darcy undresses for the night. (Suitable for adults only.) Cost £10, or £8.50 for Friends of Chertsey Museum. (Price includes morning coffee/afternoon tea.)"
...but not a cold flannel?
