Spent a girly weekend with the Gorgeous Blonde, over from Southampton specially to get her first tattoo from the lovely chaps at Temple Tatu in Boyces Street. She was, according to the genial Adam, a Very Brave Girl, and is now scarred for life with some of her big sis's artwork.

Quick dash round the shops. Successfully managed to stop her buying yet more mounds of Class A smellies. And here's a high street mystery: the only place to buy your smalls, the food's great, so are the kids' clothes - so why is the adult clothing so appalling?!

And while I'm wingeing...why does the arrival of winter clothes in the shops mean that suddenly every thing goes black, navy and burgundy? Is burgundy clothing warmer than fuschia pink? Will a navy jumper keep me warmer than a turquoise blue one? It's madness, I tell you, madness! The last thing we need when the sun goes in is to ditch the bright colours and go into mourning till May.

Strange to see Brighton suddenly quieter, almost tourist-free - and, more to the point, film crew-free. Honest, you can't walk 5 yards in the summer without tripping over camera cables and startled production assistants. One lunchtime, there I was, just sat sitting there on the beach, when a Channel 4 film crew turned up to film T4 links with that oaf Vernon, pretending to fight wi' a deckchair and going on the Golden Gallopers. Why couldn't it have been that nice Dermot O'Leary? A man after my own heart. Favourite band? Belle & Sebastian. ;)

The very lovely Tree visits me this weekend to do my roots ("It's been ages since I've seen you, they must be terrible...") and during her stay insists on watching Roswell High (she used to have a room full of River Phoenix photos, she loves all that teen stuff even though it's years since we were teenagers). So, she's perched on my bed craning towards the telly, engrossed; I'm eating my dinner with one eye on the box, and what do they use as poignant background music? B&S's Don't Leave The Light On Baby. Like, totally cool.
